AHA offers traditional MEP engineering and is looking to expand its Energy & Sustainability practice. This is a unique opportunity for someone to lead a small group while growing the practice.
About the Role
AHA is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to spearhead the department and lead a talented team that specializes in design for mission critical projects, science & technology buildings and industrial facilities. As a director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of our projects, ensuring engineering excellence.
Department Management
Oversee the day to day operation of the department, including managing staff and tracking and prioritizing project
Recruit, manage, develop, and evaluate staff by providing timely mentoring, training and performance management
Participate in AHA’s College Recruitment Program w/ co-ops and interns
Design
Advocating for sustainability in design and work to build consensus across internal stakeholders
Responsible for design decisions related to a wide range of projects which could be new construction, phased expansion, retrofits and upgrades, or renovations
Critically assess design decisions across disciplines
Provide guidance and mentoring to staff
Project Management
Monitor schedules, budgets and scope for projects to ensure compliance and track progress for small and mid-sized projects
Contribute to project planning, budgeting and controls
Review project reports to understand status, compliance, progress and identify variances
Manage development of detailed energy and carbon calculations for a wide range of architectural, and MEP systems
Business Development
Identify and pursue new opportunities for growth and sustainability of the program
Lead and direct client meetings and workshops, i.e. AHA University
Present or participate in presenting to industry forums and workshops relating to sustainability topics
Contribute to proposals and calculations for the Energy & Sustainability components of the project scope.
Other
Visit sites to perform inspections / visit clients, as required (15% local travel)
Maintain relationships with internal design staff, design and construction marketplace, partners so as to understand industry news, trends and issues
Use knowledge of sustainability, energy modeling, etc. to provide technical guidance to junior engineers and energy modelers
Position Qualifications (Required)
Minimum bachelor’s degree in architecture, Engineering or similar
Five+ years minimum previous experience in architecture, engineering or consulting firm
Proficiency in energy analysis
Familiarity with the design of HVAC systems in existing buildings
A passion for advancing sustainable design
Excellent project management skills
Experience performing ASHRAE Energy Audits
High level communicator leads meetings, delivers presentations and communicates professionally on complex topics
Positive, collaborative work ethic and ability to cultivate partnerships
Outreach, and marketing experience
Experience with utility incentives and net zero energy projects
Experience with LEED, Energy Start, Georgia Peach and Well building certification platforms
Position Qualifications (Preferred)
Advanced degree such as master’s degree
LEED AP with specialty Accreditation
ASHRAE Certifications such as BEMP, BEAP
PE, EIT or AIA
Experience managing a team
